The dissertation project focuses on the question of the convergence and increasing overlap of the religious and political spheres in the imperial context between 1886 and 1912, against the backdrop of the (tense) relationship between state/colonialism and church/mission in Italy, with a focus on the National Association for the Support of Italian Catholic Missionaries and its role in the Italian participation in the Boxer War in China (1899-1901).
