Chinese translation of ‘Globale Vorherrschaft und Fortschrittsglaube. EUROPA 1850-1914’ has been published

After an Arabic translation of IEG Director Johannes Paulmann's book ‘Globale Vorherrschaft und Fortschrittsglaube’ was published by Kalima in 2022, a Chinese translation of the volume was also published by the Chinese state publishing house Social Sciences Academic Press at the end of last year.





In his book ‘Globale Vorherrschaft und Fortschrittsglaube. EUROPA 1850-1914', Johannes Paulmann shows how much the lifeworld of Europeans changed between 1850 and 1914. During this period, material and intellectual foundations were laid that are still relevant today. At the same time, Europe experienced the height of its imperial power - never again did the continent achieve a comparable degree of global dominance as in the years before 1914.

The original German edition has been published as part of the ten-volume C.H. Beck History of Europe series. It gathers outstanding representatives of German historical science who present European history based on the latest research in an accessible and state-of-the-art approach in their studies.Their perspective is European, not national. They concentrate on central developments that characterised an entire era and at the same time convey the most important knowledge about the period covered. This demonstrates what constituted ‘Europe’ in the different periods of its long history and what ideas were associated with the term in each case.
