Evening discussion "Let's talk about Europe!" - Who is allowed to play? Diversity and difference on the football pitch
The evening discussion on "Who is allowed to play? Diversity and difference on the football pitch" is part of the "Let's talk about Europe!" series organised by the IEG and the State Centre for Political Education, Rhineland Palatine (LpB). Event language is German. In keeping with the European Championship, Malin Wilckens M.A. (IEG) will be discussing participation, difference and identities in football with Michael Ebling (Minister of the Interior and Sport of Rhineland-Palatinate), Dr. Nils Havemann (sports historian, University of Stuttgart) and football players. The panellists take a look at the European Championship and discuss differences, participation and identities in professional football. To what extent can football serve as a means of social advancement and integration? To what extent can football be understood as a yardstick and location for various social and political problems? How are professionalisation and commercialisation connected? What does the European Championship mean in one's own country and who and what is represented? The evening discussion is part of the series "Let's talk about Europe!", a very successful series of events in which the IEG and the LpB take a look at current events and crises in Europe and discuss them with an emphasis on their historical dimensions. What knowledge resources does the past hold in order to understand current events and better manage future developments?
